The FBI and local police enforcement agencies are searching for a man who people saw walk away from the Times Square car bomb.  Witnesses stated that the man glanced back at the SUV right before smoke start to fill the vehicle and people heard loud pops. Police said the that if the bomb had been detonated it would have created a large fireball and shrapnel would’ve filled the street. These are streets that are normally jampacked with thousands of people waiting to the evening on Saturday. Police were able to evacuate the area after the incident began around 6:30 PM Saturday evening.

 Things were beginning to return to normal in Times Square just after midday on Sunday. The police at the Nissan Pathfinder had plastic cans filled with gasoline and dozens of M-88 firecrackers. The vehicle also contained three propane tanks, just like the ones you use for your outdoor barbecue. There were also two alarm clocks wires and a metal gun box. The metal gun box had bags containing a substance that may have been fertilizer. This type of ingredient can be made to use explosives.

 Several extremist groups have claimed responsibility for the time square bomb but no one has been able to confirm that any of this is true. Currently the police are focusing their efforts on the man who has been videotaped walking south away from the car. A tourist from Pennsylvania has also told police that he may have an image of the person driving the car. Local street venders were the ones who first came suspicious of vehicle and alerted a passing police officer. Due to everyone’s quick thinking, a potential catastrophe was avoided.
