Times Square has been evacuated after police were alerted about a suspicious package. The package was found just three blocks away from Times Square, where the recent attempted car bombing occurred. As police arrived to investigate, they found the package contained water bottles.
The water bottles were in a cooler in front of the Marriott Marquis Hotel on 46th St. and Broadway. It was reported that approximately 12:42 PM. The bomb squad and the New York Police Department arrived at the scene, and after investigation, they determined that the package posed no threat. The surrounding area was evacuated for short time until the threat assessment was determined.
Since the attempted car bombing last week, there have been several incidences surrounding suspicious packages. So far, these have all turned out to be false alarms, however, authorities are encouraging everyone to remain diligent and observant of anything that seems be out of place. This also comes after the Robert Kennedy Bridge was closed down, when a suspicious vehicle was left unattended on the bridge. We will probably hear of many more reports of suspicious activity, and it is important that everyone keep their eyes open.
