Ruben Studdard Releases New Album

Published on April 1st, 2010

The 2003 winner of the American Idol competition released his fourth album under the independent Hickory Records label.  The name of the new element is, “Love Is” and will point is that anyone in the mood for love.  Over the years, he’s developed his voice even more so and has spent a lot of time refining it.  Even though he may not have the same large following that he did after winning the competition, there are many people that are still huge fans.

On the album, he does some cover songs that he handles wonderfully.  He does the classic Beatles song, “The Long and Winding Road” and the other song sung by Michael Jackson on the Off the Wall album, “I Can’t Help It”.  He even covered that 1972 Albert Green version of the song, “For the Good Times”, which may be one of the best tracks of the entire CD.

The disc also contains some original songs with Ruben Studdard as the co-songwriter  that includes, “My Love is a Rock” and “We Got Love”.  This album is definitely worth a look from any of the contemporary R&B fans and his great follow-up to his first album, which debuted in 2003, “Soulful” that went platinum.  His second album did go gold in 2004, but sales for his third album began to decline.  It’s good thing he was able to sign with an independent label, so we could continue to enjoy his music. Maybe he should do what Wiz Khalifa does and build his fan base through mixtapes on iTunes.
